Forell | Elsesser provided structural engineering services and proto-type consultations for the shipping containers used for this office, retail, and restaurant complex.  This unusual project was delivered via the design/build construction method. Customized Solution

• This complex consists of office space, retail space, restaurant space, and a beer garden across from McCovey Cove at the AT&T park/SF Giants’ stadium.  The complex is built entirely out of recycled shipping containers linked together to provide functional space for its users during lunch, and before and after SF Giants games.
• Each shipping container was delivered pre-manufactured to the site outfitted with piping and internal wiring, ready to connect to site utilities.  The shipping containers were pre-engineered prior to delivery with openings of various configurations to create windows and doors that service the needs of each office, retail, or restaurant space.  The openings are reinforced with steel frames to maintain structural integrity and to allow for the stacking of the containers that frame the second story.
• The shipping containers offer flexibility and creativity with the potential for various plan configurations and stacking as well as quick delivery and erection in near “ready-to-use” condition.
• The shipping containers are also compatible with a variety of foundations.  These containers in particular sit on top of shallow screw piles specially provided for this site to address poor soil bearing values and liquefaction concerns.
